The religious leaders in Jesus’s day pretended as though they were righteous and didn’t need any help. Even when the met the Messiah, the Savior of the world, they never gave up the façade or acknowledge their corruption within. Pastor Abraham Wright preaches on Matthew 23:23-37 and defines hypocrisy as looking good on the outside, but being corrupt on the inside. He shares that Jesus didn’t choose a religious leader to be one of His disciples, which shows us today that you don’t have to be a pastor or a religious leader to change the world—you just have to follow Jesus right where you are. Pastor Wright encourages us to practice what we preach, speak up against hypocrisy, and value being spiritual over looking spiritual.
